Early marriages in Kenya has been alarming of late, that has raised more concerns to the public, and here are some of the reasons why young girls associate themselves with early marriages;

Cultural Practices and Traditions: In many Kenyan communities, cultural norms and traditions favor early marriages. It is often seen as a rite of passage or a way to preserve cultural identity.

Poverty and Economic Factors: Economic hardship drives families to marry off their daughters early, viewing it as a way to reduce financial burden. The dowry received can be a significant economic relief.

Gender Inequality: Societal norms often place a lower value on girls' education and career aspirations. This gender inequality perpetuates the notion that a girl’s primary role is to be a wife and mother.

Lack of Education: Limited access to education, particularly for girls, contributes to early marriages. When girls are not in school, they are more likely to be married off at a young age.

Peer and Family Pressure: Families and peers may pressure girls into early marriage, especially if it is seen as a way to enhance family status or secure economic stability.

Weak Legal Enforcement: Although laws exist to protect against child marriage, enforcement is often weak. Legal frameworks are sometimes not adequately implemented or monitored.

Teen Pregnancy: Teenage pregnancies often lead to early marriages, either as a way to legitimize the pregnancy or due to social stigma surrounding unwed mothers.
