Kisii traders cry over destruction caused by protesters
They also ran away even with the plates
After the violent protests on Tuesday, some Kisii Traders have bemoaned vandalism and widespread damage to their establishments.
A cluster of small-scale female traders howled hysterically outside the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, where they had woken up to find their enterprises completely destroyed.
Fruit, plastic, and beverage merchants made up the traders.
Some others dealt with fabric. All they discovered at the scene was devastation.
The Star saw widespread theft and vandalism in the majority of the establishments' stores and restaurants.
During the anti-government protests, a drugstore was reduced to a shell when alleged looters burst through the doors and flipped the shelves.
In order to prevent a planned arson on the street, police had set up a roadblock on the road where embers from wooden stalls were still shouldering by Wednesday morning.
At the Capital Roundabout, more damage was seen. A trader there claimed to have lost hundreds of phones to alleged looters.
Upon returning from the protests, a trader discovered that his shop had been broken into and that items had been taken.
A hotelier at the bus park claimed that thugs broke into his well-known eatery and stole food. "They also ran away even with the plates," he added.
The women approached Governor Simba Arati outside the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital and begged him to step in.
