Before you settle on using Emergency Contraception here are 5 facts you need to know
1. ECs won’t protect you from STDS
There is a myth or rather a marketing gimmick that ECs can protect you from STIs. They won’t if you want to protect yourself from STDs use barrier methods like condoms and other prophylactics.
2. There is no guarantee that EC pills will prevent pregnancy
EC pills will not prevent you from getting pregnant. The pills have side effects like Nausea, headache, vomiting and abdominal pain.
3. Timing is paramount
EC pills should be taken between 3-5 days otherwise they won’t be effective
4. The Copper Intra Uterine device is the most effective EC
While EC pills are not very effective, Gynecologists and Obstetricians advice that Copper IUD is the most effective method of contraception
5. ECs won’t prevent pregnancy if you are already pregnant
If you are already pregnant don’t bother to use ECs because they won’t help you.
