BEATRICE CHEBET, DANIEL SIMIU VICTORY AT THE POLICE CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
In the men's event, Robert Kiprop of DCI finished third in 30:43.06, while Simiu of the Rift Valley region won in 29 minutes, 48.49 seconds. Edwin Kiplagat of RDU finished second in 30:17.91.
The Ngong Race Course hosted the 2024 National Police Service Cross Country championships on Friday. The victors were world cross-country champion Beatrice Chebet and world half marathon silver medallist Daniel Simiu.
In the men's event, Robert Kiprop of DCI finished third in 30:43.06, while Simiu of the Rift Valley region won in 29 minutes, 48.49 seconds. Edwin Kiplagat of RDU finished second in 30:17.91.
Simiu, a police constable, expressed his displeasure with the Service despite the win, saying that he should have been promoted after making an impression the previous season.
In a protest, the world 10,000m silver medallist took off his shirt as he got closer to the finish line.

"...why aren't we acknowledged? I'm submitting this note to my company, NPS; kindly acknowledge our presence. You must give a child a gift whenever they perform well. Therefore, I'm just pleading with you from the bottom of my heart," Simiu wailed. The 28-year-old expert in both road and track racing had a fantastic campaign the previous year, winning silver at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, and the first-ever World Road Running Championships in Riga, Latvia. In addition, he earned victory at the half marathons in New Delhi and Istanbul.
In the women's race, Margaret Chelimo of Eastern placed third in 34:47.59, while Gladys Kwamboka of Main Campus finished second in 34:47.11. Chebet of Eastern continued her excellent form.
