It was always going to be a difficult evening evening when the reigning English champions Man City visited Stamford bridge for their opening game of the season. Their was high antincipation from the Chelsea fans with many high profile new summer signings and a new head coach in the shape of Enzo Maresca, an apt student of Pep Gurdiola.

Chelsea played nice flowing football and the improvement from last season was notable. However, the Citizens experience and class of the Citizens was evident with a beatiful low cross from Jeremy Doku met with a classy finish from last seasons top scorer Erling Haaland in the opening 10 minutes of the match.
To give Chelsea credit it was a good display against the champions but the champions were faced with the same problem from preceding seasons with lack of creativity and spark in the final third. It is a good sign for Maresca's men but still a lot of points left for improving.
In the second half momentum shifted Chelsea's way with Nicholas Jackson missing an acrobatic attempt in the six yard box.
City were then handed a second opportunity that was brilliantly taken by former blue Croatian international Mateo Kovacic. At the end the damage was done with City two goals up and Chelsea unable to came back to the game.
Pep Gurdiola has now been unbeaten by Chelsea for 9 games ever since he got defeated by former Blues manager Thomas Tuchel. However, they take away confidence from the City game with a wonderful display and a lot of time to improve as the season progresses.
As for the Citizens they took back three points to the Etihad and a perfect start to the season as they mount a fresh challenge to the Premier League Crown that they have won 4 times in a row.
