“I have a good relationship with the president and I always call him to speak to issues concerning workers in the country,” he said.
Francis Atwoli appreciated the president for accepting the invitation to attend the 59th Labor Day celebrations and told away leaders who want to implement a bill to regulate term limits for union leaders,
He applauded the president for bringing 14 heads of state to the country to attend the International Development Association.
“The only person who could summon that number of heads of state to our country was founding father and president Jomo Kenyatta. We appreciate the efforts you are putting in to sell our country as a prime business location to the world,” Atwoli said.
Atwoli asked the president to resolve the doctors strike as it was crippling the health sector.
“The doctors strike is giving me sleepless nights and I implore you to take speedy actions to resolve the doctors’ issues,” he lamented.
The COTU Sec Gen reflected on how former unionists like Tom Mboya and Ndindi Wachira paved way for him and others to help bolster the fight for workers rights in the country.
Atwoli also asked the president to look at the issues of taxes and to implement policies that will reduce tax baggage on Kenyan workers.
