President William Ruto says that he respects the doctor’s stance to use industrial action to force government to resolve their issues. Ruto said that despite doctors and other workers having a legitimate constitutional right to use industrial action, they should use their right to demonstrate responsibility.

He added that Labor Day was a day to honor the efforts of Kenyan workers and unionists in campaigns for fair wages through industrial action

“Doctors and government are social partners and they should resolve the pertinent issues causing the doctors strike and bring an end to suffering of Kenyans,” Ruto said.

Ruto insisted that the country should live within its means and manage the way it does its business.

The president applauded workers for the effort they are putting in to build the country while saying that he was the number one worker in the country. He said that he has given executive orders for Ministry of Labor to create committees that will review minimum wage in various sectors.

“Every Kenyan must be productive and has responsibility to contribute to the building of the country. I have given orders to the Minister for Labor to form committees that will review minimum wage in various sectors in the country,” he said.

William Ruto has defended his policies saying that they are anchored at improving the economy of our country. He said that he was dedicated at synchronizing TVET institutions at various counties to equip the economy with high skilled workers.

“The housing project has employed 140,000 youths who did have employment last year. We have further employed 120,000 people to become TVET instructors at our various institutions,” he said.

“Much has been done to increase jobs through digitization and implementation of programs like JITUME that are aimed to increase job opportunities for youths in the country,” he added.

Ruto said that government was dedicated to changing laws to protect workers right both in and outside the country.

“Government has taken bilateral measures to protect workers who migrate abroad to seek employment. Every Kenyan will have social protection and right to fair wages no matter where they work in the world,” he said.

Ruto has called for calm in the country and has asked leaders to restrain from politics of tribal division saying that all his actions he is taking are for the better good of the country.

“We have to be brutally honest with each other and tell Kenyans that we cannot develop our country by using debts from other countries. We have to pay taxes so that we can manage our country’s affairs sustainably,” he said
