KNH PRODUCES A LIST OF 541 UNCLAIMED BODIES TO BE DISPOSED OF IN 7 DAYS
The KNH gave the public a 14-day notice to pick up about 224 unclaimed dead in October of last year.
A list of unclaimed bodies that have been resting at Kenyatta National Hospital's funeral home has been released.
The public has been given seven days by KNH to identify any loved ones who may be on the list; if they are not, KNH will dispose of them.
The bodies at the facility's morgue are scheduled for disposal after the allotted time has passed.
According to the hospital, its actions are by Public Health Act Cap 242 Subsidiary legislation Public Health Public Mortuaries rules, 1991.
There are 66 adults and 475 newborns on the list of 541 unclaimed bodies.
Out of the adult corpses, seven are female and the other fifty-nine are male.
"Kenyatta National Hospital has several unclaimed bodies at its farewell home," stated KNH.
"Under Public Health Act Cap 242, interested members of the public are therefore requested to identify and collect the bodies within seven days, failure to which the hospital will seek authority from the courts to dispose of them," stated KNH.

The hospital has previously taken action against unclaimed bodies at its mortuary.

The task of keeping unclaimed dead in their care has been placed in numerous hospitals throughout the nation.
When the police respond to an incident, they take the bodies of accident victims to the morgues, or they are emergency victims who are transported to the hospitals by kind people.
For example, the Machakos administration announced in September of last year that 31 unclaimed bodies were being held at the mortuary of Machakos Level 5 Hospital. The government planned to dispose of the dead.
