WHY RUTO STILL NEEDS DP GACHAGUA

In recent days there has been a spirited fight by DP Gachagua to reassert his position as the number 2 in the country. While the president has been in the USA having a time of his life, the DP has been exchanging words with some leaders from the president’s political contingency.

The first order of business for president Ruto after his lavish USA tour will be to put his house in order. He needs to address the issues between him and DP Gachagua instead of airing their dirty linen in public.

The truth of the matter is that the president needs DP Gachagua for his political benefits in the 2027 polls. If Ruto sidelines the DP he risks losing the support of vote rich central Kenya.

Gachagua might not be the most articulate leader in country, he certainly knows how to make calculated political moves having risen from a mere MP to the Deputy President of the country.

Leaders from Central Kenya have said that they would not allow the government to sideline the DP and expressed discontent in the way Gachagua is being treated.

Voices from some powerful circles have whispered that there was a discussion from the Limuru III meeting that the Kikuyu community will front a presidential candidate in the next elections. This should worry the president.

While president Ruto is a political masterclass and has never lost an election in his life, he is risking to make a deadly miscalculation in sidelining Gachagua. He still needs the DP and his massive support base to secure his second term.

The war of words between Ruto allied politicians and the Riggy G camp will only damage the relationship of the leaders at the top, the president should look for means to repair the damage if it has been done, or to look for a way to keep the DP content.
