World coin is set to resume operations in Kenya after reaching an agreement with the Kenyan government to address data privacy and security concerns that led to its suspension in August 2023. The crypto currency project, which involves users verifying their identity through iris scans in exchange for digital IDs and cryptocurrency tokens, faced criticism and regulatory scrutiny over the handling and security of biometric data.

Worldcoin has committed to adhering to new guidelines developed in collaboration with Kenyan regulators. These measures aim to ensure data privacy and security as Kenya works on new cryptocurrency regulations(Mariblock). The company's operations are expected to restart in early 2024, with plans to expand their verification and stipend distribution efforts across the country.

Despite the initial suspension, the project saw significant uptake, with hundreds of thousands of Kenyans registering for the World ID. The company's new version, World ID 2.0, includes additional features to enhance security and user verification
