An 18-month-old child was allegedly defiled in the Sakutiek neighborhood of Narok East Subounty by a 30-year-old male who was charged with the crime at a Narok court.

The horrific deed was allegedly carried out by Brian Mecha Ongeri on April 12, 2024, when he was left alone to look after the infant, according to testimony given before the court.

In front of Daniel Ngayo, the Narok Resident Magistrate, he entered a not-guilty plea.

The 10-kilogram infant was sent to Narok County Referral Hospital for treatment, where it was determined that she had been defiled, according to testimony given in court.

After the event was reported to the Sakutiek police station, a policeman took the infant to the hospital right away so that it might receive medical assistance.

On April 23, 2024, the matter will be discussed and a pre-bail sentence will be decided by the court.

A person who engages in behavior that results in sexual penetration with a minor is guilty of defilement, according to Section 8 of the Sexual Offences Act.

If found guilty, the crime carries a mandatory life term in jail.

According to the law, "a person who commits an offense of defilement with a child aged 11 years or less shall upon conviction be sentenced to life imprisonment."

According to Section 11(1) of the same statute, anyone found guilty of engaging in indecent behavior with a child faces a minimum ten-year prison sentence upon conviction.

People found guilty of defiling a child between the ages of 12 and 15 face less severe penalties under the Sexual Offences Act.

It stipulates that if found guilty, the offender faces a minimum 20-year sentence in jail.

If a person is found guilty of defiling a kid between the ages of 16 and 18, their maximum sentence is further reduced to a minimum of 15 years.

"If it is demonstrated that the child misled the accused into thinking that he or she was older than eighteen at the time of the alleged offense, and the accused person had a reasonable belief that the child was older than eighteen," the statute states, "it is a defense."
