A MAN WANTED IN THE UNITED STATES FOR KILLING HIS GIRLFRIEND FLEES FROM KENYAN CUSTODY

A Kenyan man who was being held in detention pending extradition has reportedly killed his girlfriend and is wanted in the US.

On Wednesday, when he was permitted to talk with his attorney outside of the cells, Kevin Adam Kinyanjui fled the Muthaiga Police Station.

He reportedly practically ran away and got into a neighboring matatu, making it impossible for the cops pursuing him to catch up with him.

As soon as a search for him was launched, his lawyer and four on-duty police officers were taken into custody.

A Massachusetts court issued a warrant for Kengethe's arrest after he killed his American citizen lover Margaret Mbitu on October 31, 2023, and dumped her body in a car at the Boston airport, where it was discovered.

After going on the run for several months and waiting for a court decision regarding his extradition, he was apprehended in Westlands on January 30, 2023.

"We have arrested the four officers who were on duty when he escaped to explain how this happened and we are looking for him," Nairobi Police Chief Adamson Bungei said, calling the situation "embarrassing."

Upon his arraignment in court on January 31, 2023, police requested and were granted permission to hold him for one month while the extradition court proceedings were underway.

He had a February 9 court appearance scheduled.

Documents filed revealed he had renounced his American citizenship when he appeared in court.
