FIST FIGHT BREAKS OUT AS PARENTS FORCEFULLY THROW OUT SCHOOL`S BOARD CHAIR
The parents, who are the school's owners, disagreed with the decision, claiming it went against their intentions.
At Mombasa's Nyali Primary School, classes were interrupted as parents stormed the building to remove the recently elected board.
As parents attempted to violently remove Benjamin Gitonga, the board chairman, a fistfight broke out.
By a Mombasa High Court decision, Gitonga had come to speak with the parents and instructors to begin the arbitration procedure.
The Mombasa High Court's Justice Olga Sewe imposed conservatory orders on May 23 that prevented the newly elected board from taking over the petition's pending hearing and decision.
Part of the judgment stated, "A conservatory order suspending the assumption of office of the newly elected management board of the Mombasa Parents Club/School is hereby issued, pending the hearing and determination of the petition herein."
Justice Sewe further directed that the club's constitution be used to refer the contentious March election of the new board to arbitration.
"The departing management board of Mombasa Parents Club/School shall continue to oversee the running of the club/school pending such arbitration," Judge Sewe said.
The parents, who are the school's owners, disagreed with the decision, claiming it went against their intentions.
The current board, they claimed, had been in office for more than five years.
