Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua made people chuckle during Thursday, May 30, at the National Prayer Breakfast held at the Safari Park Hotel. He playedfully discussed the "pressure" that Kenyan households were under as a result of President William Ruto's recent state visit to the US.
He pointed out that President Ruto held First Lady Rachel Ruto's hand constantly throughout the visit, encouraging Kenyan women to demand the same behavior from their relationships.
Permit me to tell you the truth, Mr. President: there was a small difficulty during your tour. Every Kenyan was keeping an eye on your activities within the state.
You did something that caused the males to have issues. You strolling around with your spouse's hand in yours. You strolling around with your spouse's hand in yours. Everywhere we went, our spouses, headed by my pastor Dorcas, insisted that we follow the President's example and hold their hands. "I hold her hand in the house," she even remarked, according to Gachagua.
Gachagua revealed that Pastor Dorcas, his own wife, had urged him to emulate the President.
Deputy President Musalia Mudavadi made a joke about Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi's requests.
We address each other as "Omwami." I told him that I was having the same issue when he asked if the issue had reached my home.
Gachagua, however, said that he has since made amends and is no longer holding the First Lady's hand after returning to Kenya.
He noted that the pressure had lessened and that he didn't grasp Pastor Dorcas' hand as he walked to the National Prayer Breakfast.
"When you returned, I knew you would find a solution to that issue. You carried that out this morning. You were strolling quickly with me and conversing as Mama Rachel sought to catch up to you as we welcomed you from your automobile to this place. That was an American issue, so the matter is resolved.
Throughout his four days in the US, President Ruto made a point of holding Mama Rachel's hand at every official ceremony. This was one of the standout acts of his state visit.
