Six Government Estates in Nairobi's Eastlands neighborhood have received notices from the Ministry of Lands to leave for their reconstruction under the Affordable Housing Program (AHP) to take place.

Jogoo Road Phase I & II, Jamaa, Mbotela, Ahero, and Mawenzi Gardens are among the impacted estates, according to the notice given by Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga.

After paying off any unpaid utility bills, rent arrears, or service charges, residents have been told to leave their homes by April 30, 2024.

As you are aware, the Affordable Housing Program (AHP), a component of the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), is being carried out by the government. To expand the rental supply, make homes available to citizens at reasonable prices, and give young people employment possibilities, several ancient estates have been designated for renovation."

"To pave the way for their redevelopment, there is a need to vacate all tenants residing in these Government estates immediately," the notice begins.

The letter indicates that upon completion of the reconstruction, residents who left these estates will have first dibs when it comes to buying or renting a home.
