HEAVY RAINS DISRUPT TRAFFIC ON KISUMU-NAIROBI HIGHWAY
Due to ongoing heavy rains all over the country, floods have damaged roads and properties worth millions of money. In Kisumu county river Nyando burst its banks flooding areas near the river and causing havoc to inhabitants who live near the river.
Due to ongoing heavy rains all over the country, floods have damaged roads and properties worth millions of money. In Kisumu county river Nyando burst its banks flooding areas near the river and causing havoc to inhabitants who live near the river.
The floods affected residents as a market; a school and a police station were submerged under water. Motorists, matatus and other vehicles had a hard time crossing Nyando Bridge impeding transportation in the area.
There were no reported casualties, but the residents were warned to be watchful and keep off that bridge because vehicles had already been sunk. Since, March the flash floods have claimed nearly 200 lives and displaced more than 200,000 people across 30,000 households in the country.
As a result of the heavy rains and flooding, President William Ruto has ordered indefinite extension of school reopening dates.
Meteorologists have warned that many counties will continue to experience heavy rainfall and flooding in coming days.Counties like , Kilifi, Lamu,Kwale, and parts of Tana River are expected to receive heavy rains for months to come.
