In 2:22:37, Kenyan Hellen Obiri completed the Boston Marathon, winning for the second time in a row and spearheading a podium sweep for her country. In just her fourth career marathon competition, Obiri—a two-time global 5000-meter champion—showed off her adaptability and endurance once more.

To save energy for the difficult miles that lay ahead, a group of twenty competitors stuck together during the first half of the women's race. After thirty kilometers, competitors such as Obiri, Sharon Lokedi, and Edna Kiplagat started to separate from the pack. By the time they got to 35 km, only 12 competitors were still in the running. Together with Lokedi and Kiplagat, Obiri broke away from the group, building a significant lead.

Lokedi demonstrated her strength and resolve as a relatively inexperienced marathon runner by staying within striking distance of Obiri despite the pressure. But in the end, Obiri's seasoned experience and finishing skill were what carried her to victory.

With only a few kilometers remaining, Obiri picked up speed and overtook Lokedi to win her third marathon in an impressive time of 2:22:37.

Despite having only completed one marathon before, Lokedi showed remarkable fortitude to finish in second position in 2:22:45. Third place in 2:23:21 went to Edna Kiplagat, completing the Kenyan podium sweep.

Obiri acknowledged the strength of her rivals while reflecting on her victory and expressing her happiness and satisfaction.

After the race, Obiri said, "I tried my best at the end because I knew that Sharon was very strong." "To win here makes me so very happy."

Obiri's performance was her third World Marathon Majors victory in a row, highlighting her increasing supremacy in long-distance road racing.

Her thorough training and confidence in her planning paid off throughout the race, which culminated in a well-earned win on the storied Boston course.

Sisay Lemma of Ethiopia won the men's race with such force that Kenya's Chebet, the reigning champion, was unable to successfully defend his title. Lemma's outstanding time of 2:06:17 demonstrated the intense competition at the Boston Marathon this year.

Obiri's consecutive victories at the Boston Marathon in 2024 are evidence of her extraordinary talent and perseverance on the international distance running scene.

All things considered, the race featured exciting competition and outstanding accomplishments. [World Athletics provides further reporting
