KISII: COUNTY ASSEMBLY SPEAKER REFERS IMPEACHMENT BID TO DG MONDA FOR PUBLIC INPUT

Speaker of the Kisii County Assembly Machuki Nyanumba has sent the county's deputy governor's impeachment motion to a departmental committee so that the public can comment on it.

Amid a struggle in the County Assembly to hasten Robert Monda's removal, Nyanumba issued the order on Wednesday.

The order came after Assembly Majority Leader Henry Moracha's adjournment motion, in which he suggested public engagement. This sparked a contentious debate between Monda's supporters and detractors.

Moracha informed the Assembly, "It is only lawful for members of the public to voice their opinions on the impeachment."

The motion's tabler, Ichuni Ward MCA Wyclife Siocha, charged Monda with egregious misconduct, breaking national law, abusing his position, and flagrantly violating the constitution.

However, Minority Leader Dennis Ombachi rejected the petition, citing signatures and a lack of supporting documentation against Monda, calling it procedurally improper.

The Speaker denied the MCA's request to invite the Deputy Governor to the Assembly so he may defend himself in light of the motion for adjournment.

"At this time, we are unable to extend an invitation to the deputy governor. The Speaker stated, "You cannot file a motion today and expect the accused to be here.

To guarantee a transparent procedure, he gave the Assembly Clerk instructions to post a call for public participation.

The Speaker declared the meeting to be adjourned, citing the necessity of giving the Deputy Governor a fair trial to protect his right to a just administration of justice.

"The Deputy Governor has not yet been removed from office. Speaker Nyanumba stated, "We want the people to voice their opinions and give the Deputy Governor time to provide his thoughts.
