Following the Machakos Law Courts' decision to prevent the Senate from gazetting Deputy Governor Robert Monda's impeachment, UDA leaders in Kisii County have vowed to assist the beleaguered official in his return to office.
Governor Simba Arati selected Elijah Obebo, the chairman of the County Public Service Board, as the deputy governor in defiance of the court order.
The county assembly then investigated and authorized Obebo.
IEBC CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan, however, stated in a letter to the ODM party that he is unable to gazette Obebo as deputy governor due to a lack of options.
Notably, the Commission Chairperson is the one who executes gazette notices on behalf of the Commission by the IEBC Act and the constitutional prescription. Significantly, the Commission Chairperson executes gazette notices on behalf of the Commission by the IEBC Act and the constitutional prescription. The letter dated April 2 states, "However, taking into account the chairperson's absence, we wish to inform you that the Commission is not in a position to appoint the returning officer and subsequently gazette the Deputy Governor approved by the Assembly."
MP Zaheer Jhanda of Nyaribari Chache said that Monda was ordered to return to office by the court till the impeachment suit was considered and decided.
"We will invite everyone who shares our values to accompany us on the designated date as we accompany the Deputy Governor to his office. "We are interested in identifying the influential person who refuses to follow court orders," he declared.
Speaking in Riondanga, Nyaribari Chache, during the funeral of the late Bathsheba Kemunto, Monda's mother-in-law, Majority Chief Whip of the National Assembly Slyavnous Osoro stated that the Senate and assembly did not need to impeach the deputy governor.
"Dr. Monda was the target of false accusations. Such levels do not need to be reached. Our leaders need to come together as a single community and decide to concentrate on growth. Church leaders need to unite and pray for Kisii since the battle there is a spiritual one, the speaker stated.
Development has been hampered, according to Osoro, by disputes inside the county.
"There have been allegations of corruption against our sons and daughters who work for the county." The Director of Public Prosecution and the police are the only entities authorized to make arrests and bring charges. Senior county employees must no longer be victimized in this way, he insisted.
Woman Rep. Dorice Donya, who accompanied Monda during the previous general election campaign, declared that she will spearhead the effort to restore the deputy governor to her position.
Representative Wilfred Monyenye of Kisii Central Ward and Chair of the Health Committee Amos Onderi led a group of MCAs who declared they were prepared to confront the administration over the decision to suspend multiple Chief Officers.
Due process has not been followed in the suspension of some policemen. We are asking the county assembly to make a statement regarding the current state of the Kisii County Cabinet. We should not be allowed to continue denouncing our people in silence, they said.
The suspension of Chief Officers, according to assembly Minority Chief Whip Bouse Mairura, is the result of a witch hunt.
"To be counted, the assembly leadership needs to rise. We want clarification on the continuous suspension. The county staff's brain drain is concerning. Allow employees to work by their code of conduct rather than based on their political affiliations, he declared.
