Intense demonstrations against the Finance Bill 2024 saw angry demonstrators rush the remote home of Molo MP Kuria Kimani on Thursday afternoon.

The Finance and Planning Committee of the National Assembly, chaired by Kuria Kimani, has been the focus of controversy due to new tax ideas that Kenyans claim are harsh.

A sizable group of demonstrators who were intent on breaking into the MP's home had to be dispersed by police using tear gas.

However, numerous windows were broken when the young protestors threw stones at the police and into the compound.

Despite the demonstrators' near-overpowering the police, the security guards called in more help and were able to occupy the residence.

Mr. Kuria served as the face of the unpopular bread and automobile tariffs found in the Finance Bill of 2024.

The MP has been the target of criticism from Kenyans in recent weeks, particularly on social media, after openly endorsing dubious tax provisions in the contentious Finance Bill.

Protesters also tried to attack Nakuru East MP David Gikaria along Section 58 road in Nakuru town, but police repelled them.

The demonstrators were yelling songs and chants criticizing the MP for supporting the Bill in Parliament, and at one point the MP's security had to shoot into the air to scatter them.

The MP lives close to State House Nakuru on Section 58 Road.

Paul Chebor, the MP for Rongai, and Samuel Arama, the MP for Nakuru West, were besieged by another set of protestors.
