New half-term dates for schools
Government announces new half term dates for schools
Ministry of education has announced new dates for half-term this second term in order to compensate the lost learning period when leaners were forced to remain at home due to flood crisis.
Schools were scheduled to open on 29th April, but Ministry of Education postponed opening due to floods, which led to many schools reopening from 13th May 2024.
The changes were communicated by Education Principal Secretary Dr. Belio Kipsang as follows; primary and secondary schools will break for half term on 26th to 28th June 2024 not as earlier communicated 20th to 23rd June 2024
This extension is aimed at allowing schools to recover the lost period and cover the syllabus especially for candidates preparing for the national examination scheduled for November.
Education CS Ezekiel Machogu said that the number of days schools are expected to close in August will also be minimized so that the second term will be extended for a few days.
However, the CS insisted that the national examination dates will remain the same for KCSE and KPSEA that will take place in November.
