POPE FRANCIS IS COMPOSING PRAYERS FOR THE WAY OF THE CROSS ON GOOD FRIDAY.
The theme of the meditations that will go along with the fourteen stations at the Colosseum is "In prayer with Jesus on the Way of the Cross".
The Vatican said that this year, Pope Francis is composing his own Via Crucis meditations for the Way of the Cross on Good Friday at Rome's famous Colosseum. Various people are assigned to write the reflections for the yearly ritual of the Via Crucis, which is overseen by Pope Francis in Rome's Colosseum on the evening of Good Friday.
The Holy See Press Office informed reporters on Tuesday that the Holy Father has chosen to compose them himself this year.
The theme of the meditations that will go along with the fourteen stations at the Colosseum is "In prayer with Jesus on the Way of the Cross".
The Colosseum in Rome will open for the customary Way of the Cross ceremony at 9:15 p.m. on Friday.
In light of the Pope's declared Year of Prayer, the Press Office describes this gesture as "an act of meditation and spirituality," with Jesus at its core.
He mentioned that the main focus will be on Christ, who walks the Way of the Cross and makes room for others to walk beside Him.
With a broad, although oblique, an allusion to contemporary events, "It is all centered on what Jesus experiences in that moment, and it is clear that it also enlarges on the theme of suffering."
