PRESIDENT RUTO DEFENDS HIS SH200 MILLION JET TRIP TO US.
The price was less than taking a Kenya Airlines ticket, according to Ruto on the X platform. "As a responsible steward of public resources and in keeping with my determination for us to live within our means I should lead from the front in so doing," Ruto stated.
President William Ruto defended his mode of transportation during his official visit to the United States last week. The government had paid more than Sh200 million to rent a plane from an Abu Dhabi-based company.
After leaving the country on Saturday night, Ruto said that the cost of the trip was less than that of flying with Kenya Airways, even though he had taken note of the concerns raised by Kenyans.

COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli defended Ruto, arguing that it was worth investing Sh200 million to charter a private plane to the USA given that a typical flight takes 18 to 20 hours and involves multiple stops en route.
Given the importance of the trip, Atwoli said it was absurd for anyone to imply that the President should have taken a regular flight. He claimed that the president inked several contracts worth trillions of shillings with US businesses for trade with Kenya.
