President William Ruto has urged the National Assembly to approve the Finance Bill 2024

During the Garissa University graduation ceremony on Thursday, the President stated that if the measure passes, JSS intern teachers and physicians would have jobs.

 
He regretted that, should the law be rejected, the hiring of 20,000 more teachers and the employment of instructors on permanent and pensionable terms would be postponed.

 
Even as widespread protests continue across the nation, Parliament is currently debating the Bill in advance of the anticipated 3.30 pm vote.

Should Members of Parliament decide to make modifications to the Finance Bill 2024 as originally drafted, Treasury Cabinet Secretary Prof. Njuguna Ndung'u has issued a warning that it will resort to making budget cuts in numerous areas.


There will be severe budget cuts to important programs and state departments.
Funding for the school nutrition program, which provides a lifeline to many students nationwide, and the Higher Education Board (HELB) will be lowered by Ksh1.8B and Ksh3.2B, respectively.
