Ruto promises to act on allegations of abductions
President William Ruto promised to take legal action against police officers who are suspected of kidnapping Kenyan citizens during demonstrations against the government.
Speaking to the youngsters during his first-ever X Space talk, Ruto stated that if police need to bring in suspects, they have certain guidelines on how to make an arrest.
He declared, "Anything that is done outside of procedure is illegal and subject to legal penalties."
The young person voiced reservations about the legality of the way the police apprehended suspects.
Kithure Kindiki, the cabinet secretary for interior, refuted rumors that the government had kidnapped certain Kenyans before to, during, and following the demonstrations against the Finance Bill.
Kindiki clarified that the claims made by several social media activists that they were kidnapped by security personnel and kept incommunicado were actually arrests, not kidnappings.
"We do not condone abductions neither does the Constitution allow either abductions or enforced disappearances or even torture," added Kindiki.
Ruto responded by saying that officers are aware of the proper way to make an arrest.
