1,270 medical officers and Interns have been sent to a range of healthcare facilities throughout the nation.

The interns with diploma holders who obtained their offer letter of internship placement, according to Health Principal Secretary Harry Kimtai on Thursday, will report to work for their one-year training program on April 1.

PS Kimtai reports that 3,752 interns from a variety of cadres are included in the internship program. These include 849 medical interns, 290 pharmacists, 73 dental officers, 1,125 nursing officers with a degree, 145 degree holders, and 1,270 clinical officers with a diploma who posted on Thursday.

Although there were delays that were out of the ministry's control, he expressed gratitude to the National Treasury for approving our request for placement letters after we expressed worry that the difficulties would cause your program to run behind schedule.

To facilitate the interns' posting and to send a strong message to those who are on strike to return to work, the health PS said that the placement will be completed in phases.

"Posting of the interns was one of the controversial topics because of the difficulties the Ministry of Health was having with the budget deficit, and now that you have been approved, we want those who have been using the issue of posting of the interns to strike to end the strike. We have begun posting the interns as a ministry," Kimtai stated.

George Gibore of the Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) urged the government to increase the number of interns stationed in medical facilities so that they might also be sent abroad to serve.

"As a union, we call on the government to enhance the quantity of interns taken on. He warned that if they don't get care, they might wind up worse off than the individuals they are meant to be caring for at the health centers.

The monthly pay for Clinical Interns with Diplomas would be Sh35,000, an increase from the present amount of Sh15,000.
