Narok County has announced a ban on private vehicles within the Maasai Mara National Reserve, effective from July 1, 2024. This decision aims to preserve the park's ecosystem and reduce traffic congestion, ensuring a better wildlife experience for visitors. Instead of private vehicles, visitors will need to use tour operator vehicles, which are more regulated and environmentally friendly.

The new policy accompanies increased entry fees for the park. For Kenyan citizens, the fees have tripled, with adults now paying KSH 3,000 per day and children KSH 1,000. Non-residents will face seasonal charges, with adults paying USD 100 from January to June and USD 200 from July to December.

In addition to these changes, Narok County has also revised lease agreements for properties within the reserve, sparking concerns among investors about transparency and fair distribution of fees. These leases, which include ground rent and bed-night fees, are essential for maintaining and developing the reserve but have been met with criticism regarding their implementation process.
