Mediamax Journalist Shot While Covering Nakuru Protests

 Catherine Wanjeri Kariuki, a journalist Mediamax Limited, was shot while covering anti-government protests in Nakuru, Kenya.

The protests were against the demonstrations were marked by violent clashes between police and protesters, resulting in several deaths and numerous injuries.

 Protesters also demanded the resignation of President William Ruto, accusing him of mismanagement, corruption, and a heavy-handed approach to dealing with dissent.

Catherine Kariuki was reportedly shot in the thigh by a police officer while standing by the roadside, clearly marked as a member of the press.

She was rushed to Valley Hospital for treatment, where it was confirmed that she had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to her thighs.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from various groups, including the Kenya Union of Journalists which described the shooting as a targeted attack by a rogue police officers.

 Kenya union of journalist as demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of the officer involved, warning that if no action is taken within a week, they will pursue private prosecution.

This incident highlights concerns over police brutality and the safety of journalists covering protests in Kenya.
