To protect people from harm, President William Ruto has declared that residents in flood-prone areas will be relocated, whether or not they agree with the decision.

In Nairobi on Thursday, Ruto voiced his dismay at the loss of life and property suffered by flooding in many regions of the nation while presiding over the ceremonial opening of Bunge Tower.

To ensure that we can assist everyone who is in need and to relocate residents who are in high-risk regions that could flood, he declared, "I will be holding another emergency session with multi-agency teams tomorrow."

Sadly, if they don't agree, we will have to relocate some of them, because otherwise they are putting their safety at risk.

In response to the raging floods, the Head of State said that he has given the National Youth Service (NYS) permission to offer land for the inhabitants who will be relocated.

As we determine what to do with the people living in some of these risky regions, President Ruto remarked, "I have authorized the National Youth Service to provide land for them to be moved to safer grounds."

He pleaded with representatives of the national government to cooperate with counties to assist individuals in need, alleging that the military and the state of New York have been mobilized.

Ruto added that individuals in need are supported by the government, which has given them food and other necessities.

To promote better cooperation in responding to the flood calamity, he said, Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua would be meeting with all other stakeholders, including development partners, on Friday.

The Kenya Meteorological Department indicates that the condition will last through June 2024 despite the country's diverse regions having been shaken by heavy rainfall.

Due to excessive precipitation, homes have been inundated by rivers and dams that have broken. Those affected by flooding in certain areas have been forced to wait for safety on roofs and treetops until the waters subside.

Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki has declared the government's intention to increase assistance to those impacted by floods brought on by the nation's continuous rainy season.

In a statement released on Thursday, Kindiki said that to assist those impacted, a multi-agency response comprising pertinent state agencies, government ministries, and humanitarian organizations is being coordinated.
