DRAMA: KIRINYAGA WOMAN REP AND SENATOR STORM POLICE STATION OVER CHIEF'S RELEASE ACCUSED OF DEFILING MINOR
The furious crowd, led by Representative Jane Njeri Maina and Senator James Murango of Kirinyaga, broke into the Baricho Police Station and demanded to speak with the officers who had supposedly helped the chief be released.
On Friday, tensions erupted in Kirinyaga County when local authorities and citizens rushed a police station, demanding an explanation for the release of a chief who had been charged with defiling a 13-year-old juvenile.
The furious crowd, led by Representative Jane Njeri Maina and Senator James Murango of Kirinyaga, broke into the Baricho Police Station and demanded to speak with the officers who had supposedly helped the chief be released.
"Who is this OCS in this instance? The Senator from Kirinyaga is me. Murango asked, "I want to know who the DCI is and why he freed the Giacong'e chief, who is a menace to the community.
In an attempt to expose flaws in the way the child was freed, the two leaders also enquired as to the whereabouts and state of the alleged abuse victim. For allegedly attacking the victim's sister, they also wanted the chief to be taken into custody.
"What happened to the girl who was reportedly violated is unknown to us. Who knows if she was slain and why the chief was let off the hook without being charged? After going public with the incident, he also attacked the victim's sister, according to Njeri.
The chief was released on a Ksh. 30,000 police bail, per the directives of the County Investigating Criminal (CIC) Officer, Murango, and Njeri were then led to the office of the Kirinyaga West Sub-county Police Commander.
