Due to the continuous rains in the Kajiado West sub-county, several households have been forced to evacuate from Entasopia, Shompole, and Kamukuru after the River Ewaso Nyiro burst its banks on Sunday night.

Joseph Sirai, an elder in Entasopia, told the Star that on Monday morning, they saw a dead elephant being swept away by the roaring floods of the Ewaso Nyiro River.

"Due to the flooding, we are unable to access our farms in Congo, Entasopia, Daraja, Konei, and Soweto," Sirai stated.

Sirai said that late on Sunday night, floods washed out the pit latrines at the Entasopia Village Polytechnic.

In Entasopia, a local hospital was wrecked by flooding on Sunday night, and multiple families were forced to flee, according to Governor Joseph Lenku.

Nkaimurunya in Ngong and Kyang'ombe in Kitengela town, he claimed, are the most popular, along with Entasopia and Shompole.

According to Lenku, the floods have impacted at least 1,450 people in Nkaimurunya and Kyang'ombe.

To monitor the situation day and night, Lenku stated that emergency teams at the village level had been activated throughout the entire county.

He exhorted residents in locations that are susceptible to flooding to leave to prevent tragedies and loss of life.

The floods that destroyed the tarmac along the road between Kiserian and Magadi town have also caused damage to that stretch of road.

As a result of the Lake Magadi water rising, the residents of Entasopia and Shompole are likewise shut off.

Residents warned that if the rains continue, they will not receive food supplies from Nairobi and that the only way to go to Shompole and Entasopia is by crossing Lake Magadi.
