Kenya Airways, the national airline of Kenya, has halted its flights to Kinshasa due to the military of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) continuing to detain its crew over a contentious shipment of currency. The airline stated in a statement on Monday that the suspension will begin on Tuesday and that it is experiencing challenges with oversight and assistance for its operations in Kinshasa.
"Kenya Airways is unable to effectively support our flights without personnel due to the ongoing detention of KQ employees by the Military Intelligence Unit in Kinshasa." Allan Kilavuka, the managing director of the airline, stated in the notification that "As a result, we reached a difficult decision to suspend flights to Kinshasa effective April 30, 2024, until we can effectively support these flights."

ASKY carriers, South African Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, and Precision Air are among the other carriers that would profit from KQ's decision.
According to information released by Mr. Kilavuka last week, two employees of the airline were taken into custody and arrested on April 19, 2024, for allegedly failing to provide customs paperwork for valuable cargo that was scheduled to be transported on a KQ flight on April 12, 2024.
