KENYA STEPS UP ITS DIPLOMATIC EFFORTS TO LEAD THE AU COMMISSION

In support of ODM leader Raila Odinga's candidacy for the African Union Commission, the Kenya Kwanza administration has stepped up its campaign.
Under the direction of CS for Foreign Affairs and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, the State on Monday pleaded with African nations to back Kenya's candidacy to head the African Union Commission.
Speaking during the Nairobi meeting, Mudavadi stated that Kenya will leverage its position as the AU Commission's chair to promote connections across African nations, particularly in commerce and investment.
Additionally, the Prime Minister CS emphasized the nation's dedication to creating a more affluent and connected Africa.
"Kenya is determined to strengthen its position within the African Union Commission," Mudavadi stated.
Kenya is reiterating its commitment to fostering solidarity, togetherness, and collaboration for the benefit of the continent as a whole as it mobilizes support from its African counterparts.
Kenya intends to take part in the 2025 elections for the African Union Commission to use its influence inside the organization to promote institutional changes and further the Pan-African Agenda.
Kenya's bilateral relations are heavily focused on trade and investment, especially in the context of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Mudavadi praised Kenya's proactive involvement in the AfCFTA and gave instances of prosperous trade agreements with other African nations.
"Kenya, one of the pilot countries in the implementation of the AfCFTA, exported its first goods of locally made car batteries and tea to Ghana in October 2022," according to him.
Kenya has been actively involved in diplomatic relations during the past year, arranging multiple official visits and establishing Memoranda of Understanding with different African nations.
According to the Prime CS, Kenya is actively pursuing its foreign policy agenda, with a focus on strengthening ties with its African counterparts. These actions are indicative of this strategy.
"Africa forms the core of Kenya’s foreign policy."
Mudavadi stressed how important it is for African countries to live together and work together.
Important programs like the abolition of visa requirements for all African nations as of January 1, 2024, demonstrate Kenya's dedication to promoting intra-African trade and unity.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga of Kenya has presented himself as the one best suited to assist in elevating the African continent.
He declared his candidacy for the job on February 15 and has garnered support from at least seven heads of state in Eastern Africa in addition to backing from all political stripes within the nation.
"I'm willing to take up the challenge, I'm prepared, and I volunteer to help. "I have requested that my friend, the former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, maintain his excellent ambassadorial work and engage with others," stated Raila.
He continued by saying that he had discussed his decision to accept the position with many of his friends.
