Sh245 million County Bursary Fund for Kisii's secondary schools and Vocational Training Centers is expected to assist at least 52,000 economically disadvantaged students by 2024.

The amount provided to each of the 45 electoral wards is an average of 5 million shillings, while the bursary kitty has been boosted from Sh145 million to Sh245 million.

Kisii Governor Simba Arati spoke during the bursary check distribution at Gusii Stadium in Kisii town. He stated that although the bursary was distributed later than expected due to delays in the County Budget's approval, the students would still receive their checks in time for the school's second term.

" Our goal is to assist financially disadvantaged students because education is an important equalizer that helps everyone move up the socioeconomic, political, and leadership ladders," stated Arati.

This year's bursary fund, the governor noted, took into account vulnerable students from Vocational Training Centers who were not previously recipients of the money.

Arati claimed that he had overseen the bursary forms' distribution throughout every ward and made sure his team personally wrote checks to each beneficiary to guarantee the exercise was transparent.

For the county to get value for the money invested in the bursary program, the County Boss advised the students who will benefit from it to work hard and turn in outstanding academic results.

Arati added that the county has hired all of the ECDE teachers permanently and that the ECDE centers would undergo renovations to improve performance in the field of education.

"Our plan to have our training colleges mentored by centers of excellence in technical training is well on course, and we are gearing up to revamp our Vocational Training Centers," he said in closing.
