LAWYER FAITH ODHIAMBO TAKES OFFICE AS LSK PRESIDENT

Lawyer Faith Mony Odhiambo has secured the presidency of the Law Society of Kenya.
Odhiambo, who destroyed four other contenders, takes over for Eric Theuri, who held the position for two years starting in March 2022.
With 3113 votes overall, she defeated Peter Wanyama's 2165. With 888, Carolyne
Kamende placed third.
Bernard Ng'etich, in fourth place, received 833 votes, and Njoki Mboce received 511 votes.
In the six polling places at the Milimani Law Courts, as well as in areas like Nyeri, Homa Bay, Nanyuki, Kisii, Machakos, Kisumu, and Nakuru, Odhiambo was leading.
In the just-finished LSK elections, 7,521 of the 15,715 registered members cast ballots. But 7510 of the votes were deemed legitimate.

Odhiambo wears various hats in the academic world. Her father is a lecturer at Maseno University, where she was born.
She graduated from the Kenya School of Law with a diploma in law, the Catholic University of Eastern Africa with an LLB (Hons), and the University of Kent (UK) with an LLM (Hons) in International Commercial Law with European Law.
The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators—UK (MCIarb) is a group she belongs to.
She is not only a qualified legal practitioner but also a Certified Public Secretary (CPS).
Odhiambo is a PhD candidate at the University of Nairobi, where she studies topics related to banking, financial services, consumer protection, telecommunications, arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution laws.
In addition, she discusses social issues such as economic law, human rights, intellectual property rights, climate change, and the rights of women and children.
Serving as a lecturer at the University of Nebraska School of Law, Odhiambo demonstrates her love and commitment to the legal field by including her research themes in most of her lectures.
She was the board secretary of the Federation of Women Lawyers-Kenya (FIDA-Kenya) in addition to being a leader and member of LSK.
She is a consultant partner at MMA Advocates and the UoN in addition to being a partner at Ombok and Owuor LLP Advocates.
What follows her victory
Odhiambo claims that her experience as a legal lecturer has given her an understanding of the struggles faced by young advocates.
She pledged during her campaign to address all instances of corruption.
"We are lawyers and if we serve the public, we are not going to allow any corrupt officials out to enrich themselves," she stated.
She underlined that all dishonest judges must give up their vices and perform their duties honorably.
Anyone who deviates from the norm should be called out and told to stop serving, the attorney added.
In addition to tackling the difficulties in finding work for lawyers, she pledged to make sure the organization continues to be a powerful voice for its constituents and the general public.
Our goal is to improve the difficulties we face in providing employment opportunities for young lawyers. I pledge to improve the mentorship program we established to make sure they receive briefs during my time as the vice president," Odhiambo stated.
When she emerged victorious, Wanyama gave in, extending his congratulations to her and attributing his defeat to her allegations of government support.
