MPS QUESTION MOVE BY GOVERNMENT TO HALF LINDA MAMA FUNDING

MPs have questioned move by ministry to slash funding of the Linda Mama initiative from 4billion to Kshs 2billion saying that it will expose pregnant women and unborn babies.

Ministry of health in its defence has said that it is not phasing out the initiative but, it will fund only needy cases.

The Linda mama initiative used to offer birth by c-Section, natural birth, treatment and management of complications arising from pregnancy, birth and offered at least four post-natal visits for monitoring the health of a baby.

This move by government will affect women who come from poor backgrounds and are unable to finance their medical bills. It is also likely that death rate and infancy mortality rate will increase in days to come.
