Youths in Kenya today have engaged themselves in drug abuse. Lack of jobs is a major contributing factor that has influenced young people. The drugs have made youths to engage in risky behavior like having unprotected sex.
During a prayer service at Kegati parish which was attended by Kisii leaders like Silvanus Osoro they encouraged youths to stop alcohol, drug and substance abuse and that government should implement policies and projects to engage in constructive leisure.
According to research findings, the prevalence of current usage of alcohol among respondents aged 15-65 years is 12%, tobacco 8.3% and marijuana 1.0%.
Factors like peer pressure, stress and failure of parental guidance is what has led most of the youths to engage drug abuse.
Drug abusers are in the risk of contracting health problems like lung and heart disease, stroke, cancer, or mental and psychological conditions.
Drugs can also lead to the users risking their lives and the lives of others including family. They are likely to commit suicide, have domestic problems, work issues and also financial problems.
