THE PLENARY TO HEAR MONDA'S IMPEACHMENT MOTION.

Speaker Amason Kingi declared, "Majority leader, you do not have a seconder for this motion." "The motion for the establishment of a committee having suffered that setback, the matter shall be heard in plenary," the Speaker said. In due course, I will provide more instructions. Senate committee as a whole will hear the impeachment case against Robert Monda, Kisii deputy governor.
The move to form a committee to look into the impeachment allegations, made by Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, failed.
Having chosen Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to second the move to create the squad, Cheruiyot was unable to get a seconder for the motion.
Sifuna, who was asked to second the motion, stated, "I had indicated to the Leader of Majority to withdraw my support of this motion."
As a result, Speaker Amason Kingi ruled that the motion had failed.

A committee composed of eleven members was initially suggested by Senator Cheruiyot to investigate the grounds for the deputy governor of Kisii's impeachment.
The 53 MCAs and the DG's legal counsel will present their cases to the House.
To support their respective arguments, the teams will also call witnesses.
Following a vote in support of the resolution by 53 of the 70 members of the county assembly, Kisii MCAs impeached Monda last month.
Thirteen MCAs supported his firing, while one did not cast a ballot.
According to the County Governments Act's Section 33(2)(a), the Speaker of the county assembly has two days to notify the Speaker of the Senate of the resolution passed by the assembly.
The Speaker of the Kisii County Assembly reported the events that followed Monda's impeachment on February 29, 2024, to the Office of the Speaker of the Senate on March 2, 2024.
He is facing charges from the MCAs of serious misconduct, misuse of power, and flagrant violation of the Constitution. All of the accusations were refuted by Monda.

"In my entire life, I have never been accused of corruption. It's only happening to me this once in my history. Monda stated, "I have enough answers, and it is the bearers of this motion's job to make sure they have a case to prosecute.
Impeachment proceedings in the Senate are frequently contentious, with the House divided along the Kenya Kwanza and Azimio axes.
The Senate will consider an impeachment case against a deputy governor for the second time this term.
Last year, the county assembly's attempt to remove Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol was heard by senators and rejected by a majority vote.
