Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) agents have detained a man who is suspected of raping a woman and stealing her cell phone and some cash.
In Kabete, Kiambu County, 39-year-old James Mwangi Wanjahi was taken into custody after going missing on February 17, 2024.
According to the DCI, "Crime research detectives based at DCI Headquarters have arrested a suspect of robbery and rape who lured a 40-year-old woman into a business deal only to commit the abominable act," in part.
Investigators reported that a phone taken from the victim was found, and the suspect was taken out of his hiding place in Kabete.
In the February incident, Wanjahi called his victim to arrange a meeting in Nairobi to discuss a possible business arrangement while he pretended to be a customer.
Later, as she got into his alleged automobile to go to the meeting spot, he would turn against her.
"She fainted while in the car, but hours later, she woke up in the same vehicle at a thicket in Gilgil, where she was raped, stripped half-naked, and robbed of Ksh. 17,000," the DCI stated.
While awaiting his arraignment, the suspect is being detained at the Gilgil Police Station.
