On July 11, 2024, Kenyan President William Ruto made significant changes to his cabinet. In a move that surprised many, he dissolved his entire cabinet except for the Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua, and the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi. This reshuffle affected various ministries and principal secretaries, marking a significant reorganization aimed at optimizing government performance and delivery.
"The reshuffle is intended to optimize performance and enhance delivery as set out in our administration’s manifesto. We must ensure that the government works efficiently to address the challenges faced by our people and to fulfill our commitment to transformative governance." President Ruto said.
This dramatic move comes amid ongoing nationwide protests over the high cost of living and controversial tax hikes, which have put significant pressure on Ruto's administration. The president also announced austerity measures, including the dissolution of 47 state agencies and the suspension of non-essential travel for government officials.
