The Kisii County Assembly formally notifies Speaker Amason Kingi of Deputy Governor Robert Monda's impeachment, setting up a political clash in the Senate.

The notification and impeachment documents were presented to Kingi by Kisii speaker Philip Nyanumba on Saturday, opening the door for the speaker to present the case to the Senate and begin the hearing procedure.

Monda was impeached by the Kisii MCAs last Thursday, following a vote in favor of the measure by 53 of the 70 county assembly members.

Thirteen MCAs voted against his termination, while one did not cast a ballot.

According to Section 33(2)(a) of the County Governments Act, the speaker of the county assembly has two days to notify the speaker of the Senate of the resolution passed by the assembly.

Kingi now has seven days, starting on Saturday, to call a Senate meeting to discuss the deputy governor's claims.

On Tuesday, the House is anticipated to receive notification from the speaker.

After receiving notice, the Senate will designate an 11-member special committee to look into the issue or hear the House as a whole.

He is facing charges from the MCAs of serious misconduct, misuse of power, and flagrant violation of the Constitution. The deputy governor, however, refuted the accusations.

"I have never in my life been accused of corruption. This is the only occasion in my memory that it is happening. It is the holders of this motion to make sure they have a case to prosecute, and I have enough answers," Monda stated.

A notice of the impeachment motion filed at the county assembly and a transcript of the proceedings during the meeting were among the other documents Nyanumba supplied in addition to the notification (Hansard).

He also offered a certified copy of the roll call vote on the motion to impeach the deputy governor, as well as a copy of the committee's report that suggested his impeachment.

The Kenya Kwanza and Azimio axes divide the House, making impeachment trials in the Senate frequently contentious.

The impeachment of a deputy governor is being considered by the Senate for the second time in as many years.

The attempt by the county assembly to remove Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol was considered by the senators last year, but it was rejected by a majority vote.

Senate President Samson Cherargei of Nandi declared, "We shall not allow individuals to use the Senate as a platform for settling political scores."

The outspoken politician declared that the Senate would give the case and the proof offered to support the impeachment due consideration.

"The Senate will carry out justice, even though the impeachment process is mostly political. He declared, "We won't be convinced."

Senator Edwin Sifuna of Nairobi stated that the Senate will analyze the case and evidence that are brought before it objectively."

"This impeachment will be handled the same as any other. We will consider all the issues and come to a fair conclusion," stated the secretary-general of the ODM.

Should the senators choose to form a special investigative committee, the committee will provide a report to the Senate within ten days, detailing whether the specifics of the accusations made against the deputy governor are real.

For the duration of the special committee's investigation, the deputy governor will be allowed to appear and be represented.

The allegation against the director general will not be the subject of any further proceedings under this section if the special committee finds that the details of the allegation have not been proven.

If the committee finds merit in the accusations, the governor will be given a chance to be heard and have a vote on the impeachment charges by the Senate.

The governor will step down from office if the Senate's county delegations vote in favor of upholding any impeachment charge.
