A memorial to honor their lives will be conducted tomorrow in an effort to pressure legislative authorities to take action in response to the growing number of cases of women dying from femicide.

Public figure Janet Mbugua rallied support for the vigil on her Instagram page.

"On Wednesday, there will be a dark Valentine vigil taking place at the University of Nairobi Main Campus from 4 pm to 7 pm," she stated.

"With this vigil, the national and county assemblies will be under pressure to read and act upon a previous petition that demands that the government address the rising number of femicide cases in the nation."

It is anticipated that the vigil will occur in multiple different sites around the nation.

"It is a memorial to our lost sisters meant to put pressure on Parliament and county assemblies opening on February 13, to read and act on our demands to our delivered petition," Mbugua explained.

She also exhorted Kenyans to participate in big numbers and provide non-cash support for the movement.

Candles, water, flowers, handkerchiefs, and other non-monetary support are among the items asked.

In the February 8 petition, it is demanded that the government declare femicide to be unacceptable and expeditiously prosecute those who commit the crime.
