Brazilian star and West Ham’s midfielder Lucas Paqueta has been accused by the Football Federation for deliberately getting booked in four premier league matches to help friends cash in on bets.
This scandal became the focus of attention during West Hams season opener against Bournemouth when Paqueta was booked in the 93rd minute raising speculations and triggering scrutiny by Football association.
According to The Sun, Paqueta had asked his manager David Moyes to leave him out of the game to avoid any injury risks, however despite his request, he eventually agreed to play after discussions with Moyes and other seniors at the club.
Moyes had initially planned to substitute Paqueta in the second half to out rule the chances of him having an injury, however he remained on the pitch until added time when he received the contentious booking for handball a moment that has become the cornerstone of the FA’s investigation.
The former AC Milan and Lyon ace has been left in awe by the charges and he is living in fear that his career could be done if found guilty despite pledging to be innocent.
Paqueta’s legal team is preparing a strapping defense aiming to challenge the FA's claims. They argue that the timing of Paqueta’s yellow card in added time is inconsistent with a deliberate attempt to manipulate betting outcomes.
Lucas Paqueta’s case will be heard by a three-person independent commission later this summer. If found guilty, Paqueta could face a ban of up to ten years a punishment that would effectively end his professional football career.
However, Lucas remains steadfast in his defense and hopes that the truth will finally liberate him.
