A COP WALKS 300 MILES ON THE "TRAIL OF DEATH" TO CARRY OUT A TRAGIC MISSION
At the crime scene, an AK-47 rifle was found. One of the attacker's three fully loaded magazines was empty. A magazine held thirty rounds.
Evans Kimutai, an Administration Police officer, arrived at his girlfriend's workplace, the Cherangani Forest Station in Elgeyo Marakwet County, on Sunday night. Kimutai is a forest ranger.
In pursuit of the aforementioned girlfriend, he traveled more than 300 kilometers from his job station at the Todonyang Police Post in the Turkana North sub-county.
He was, it would turn out, on a tragic mission.
Soon after his arrival, the officer opened fire on Kenya Forest rangers, killing two and wounding one. Cherangani Forest Station was transformed into a crime scene.
Then, in an attempt to stop his murderous rampage, he turned the gun on himself.
At the edge of the woodland, the young officer accidentally shot himself in the chin.
At the manager of the forest station's door, the young officer accidentally shot himself in the chin.
Three victims, all shot to death, lay where the gunfire had finally stopped.
Monica Kilonzi, a third forest officer, suffered severe injuries to her right chest and upper right hand.
She was taken to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret after being rushed to the Kapcherop Health Centre. The trio of corpses was likewise transported to MTRH.
At the time of the event, the attacker's girlfriend was not present at the station.
The identities of the two forest officers who perished, Abdallah Dzabo Kitolle, 22, and Marion Jerono, 20, have now been revealed.
As he tried to notify three female police, Mr. Kitolle, the station's night watchman, was slain.
After celebrating Madaraka Day at the Kapsoar Sub County headquarters, he met his demise at the doorstep where the two female cops were having dinner.
Fatuma Omar, the 21-year-old spouse of Mr. Kitolle, stated that her husband had only worked at the station for two years.
"Abdalla was very devoted and kind. He truly cared for our 10-month-old son and me," the young widow remarked.
It was a fortunate escape for the station manager since it seemed the officer's goal was to kill everyone in sight, not only his girlfriend.
At the crime scene, an AK-47 rifle was found. One of the attacker's three fully loaded magazines was empty. A magazine held thirty rounds.
The terrible event that occurred on Sunday night left the forest officers and locals of Kapcherop Centre, where the station is located, in shock as they tried to process what had happened.
Elgeyo Marakwet County Police Commander Peter Mulinge said that the heavily armed officer killed the two KFS officers and wounded the third ranger in a random shooting.
According to Mr. Mulinge, the attacker and his girlfriend had never agreed. The officials banned the attacker from the forest station due to their differences.
The girlfriend of the attacker was not present at the forest station when the event occurred, according to the head of the county police.
The murderer policeman allegedly told the station's officials that some of his girlfriend's coworkers had been meddling in their relationship.
"After this tragedy, we're still in shock. When encountering relationship difficulties, we urge young people to seek professional counseling rather than handling things on their own," said Andrew Chemaringo, the area chief.
Resident William Kimaiyo called the occurrence regrettable and urged the government to make sure young men and women of integrity are recruited to join the disciplined military.
Given that the accused killer was a well-known young guy in the community, this act has caused us great anguish as parents and locals. Mr. Kimaiyo stated, "To prevent such incidents, the government must be thorough in vetting youths joining disciplined forces."
Alex Lemarkoko, the National Chief Conservator of Forests, visited the station on Monday to evaluate the crime scene and offer his condolences to the families of the fallen policemen. Senior KFS officers and a group of security guards from Kapsoar Sub County also joined Lemarkoko.
"After hearing that two of my policemen had been killed by an attacker—we now know—who was a police officer from Turkana North, I had to take a plane from Nairobi to come and examine the situation. Regretfully, two of our junior officers have left us," the KFS chief stated.
Police have started investigations, according to Mr. Lemarkoko, which will assist KFS in determining the incident's primary cause.
However, he advised young people who were having problems in their relationships to get counseling rather than using violence.
We use an application as KFS to communicate with our cops. According to Mr. Lemarkoko, "I always advise young people to seek guidance and counseling from their seniors and other members of the society whenever they have relationship challenges."
