The charges against a father who is suspected of paying Kisii Deputy Governor Robert Monda Sh800,000 to help get his son hired have been refuted.

Joseph Misati stated that he never sent Sh800,000 to Monda in remittances during his testimony on Thursday as the DG in the continual impeachment trial.

Rather than using a bank account transfer or his son Dennis Mokaya's phone numbers, Misati claimed he sent the DG Sh500,000 directly.

The DG had loaned him a debt somewhere between October and November of 2022, and he said that the money was to clear it.

"My wife and four sons paid the DG a visit at his house on May 28, 2023. "I made the appointment," he declared.

He added that for a few minutes during the meeting, he and the DG sat apart from his kids and had private conversations.

The DG reminded him of the debt he had advanced to him at that same moment.

He added that at that moment, he gave his wife instructions to transfer Sh251,000 from their joint bank account to the M-Pesa account of the DG.

Misati claimed he also gave his wife instructions to send Mokaya the remaining Sh249,000 so she could take out cash and give it to the DG.

But there was no M-Pesa store in the city that had that much cash.

Mokaya therefore paid the money to Monda in installments.

Mokaya described how he was compelled to sell his family business to collect a portion of the funds needed to bribe the DG during his testimony before the county assembly on Wednesday.

According to reports, Monda had asked for the money to assist Misati in getting his son Mokaya hired by the Gusii Water and Sanitation Company.

Dennis Mokaya made a moving statement in front of the senators debating Monda's impeachment on Tuesday, detailing how he had to sell his salon to obtain Sh800,000 to pay the deputy governor to give him a job.

When Misati contacted Monda, who they believed to be a long-time acquaintance, she was able to get him a job. Misati was hoping that Monda would help their son, Mokaya, get employment.

As far as Mokaya was concerned, Monda had assured him that he would assist his father in getting him a job at the Gusii Water and Sanitation Company as a commercial manager.

Speaking on the witness stand, Mokaya represented the county assembly, which is attempting to remove the deputy governor due to flagrant misconduct, misuse of power, and violations of federal law.
