Government Lashes Back at Kenyatta Family
Government in a press release dated 10th June 2024 has addressed the issues that were raised by Uhuru Kenyatta’s spokesperson Kanze Dina. The release titled, “SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT ON STATEMENT BY OFFICE OF THIRD RETIRED PRESIDENT,” addressed an array of allegations about vehicles, office, staff and budget.
Government in a press release dated 10th June 2024 has addressed the issues that were raised by Uhuru Kenyatta’s spokesperson Kanze Dina. The release titled, “SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT ON STATEMENT BY OFFICE OF THIRD RETIRED PRESIDENT,” addressed an array of allegations about vehicles, office, staff and budget.
The letter admits that they differ on the number of vehicles provided to the former head of state but states that they have provided 14 vehicles that are fueled by Statehouse MasterCard and regularly maintained by government.
“These vehicles are fueled and maintained by statehouse. Our records show that several vehicles were fueled as recently as on April 5, May 7, May 8 and May 15.” The release said.
The office of the former president also said that the vehicles they had were old and undeserving of a former president. To which government said that the vehicles allocated to the Kenyatta’s were bought in 2020, 2021 and 2022. The release also said that Uhuru wanted vehicles worth a staggering 140 million which was too exorbitant.
“Moreover, the Office of The Third Retired President has sent a request for 4 vehicles whose cost is a staggering 140million. They are Range Rover Vogue at kshs51.3 million, Mercedes Benz S500 worth Ksh66.4million, Toyota Landcruiser ZX-VXRK6 worth Ksh22.5million and a Toyota Fortuner worth Ksh10.6million,” the release said.
On the issue of the office government says that Uhuru Kenyatta was allowed to use the office at Nyari, Nairobi which was also used by former President Mwai Kibaki for 9 years.
On the issue of staff government said that all employees working for the Kenyatta’s are on government payroll.
Lastly the release addressed the issues surrounding the budget of the former president claiming that it fueled 14 of his cars and provided facilitation for all of his travels both locally and internationally.
The press release was signed by nominated senator Isaack Mwaura who is a government spokesperson.
