To address concerns regarding corruption at NHIF, Health CS Nakhumicha S. Wafula went before the Parliamentary Health Committee on Thursday, which is chaired by Dr. Robert Pukose.

CS Nakhumicha admitted systemic problems and started an internal investigation while accompanied by Medical Services PS Mr. Harry Kimtai, NHIF CEO Elijah Wachira, and Ministry of Health employees.

CEO of the NHIF Elijah Wachira drew attention to disparities at Beirut Pharmacy and Medical Center, emphasizing that surgical notifications—rather than public attention—were the driving force behind the audit.

Dr. Pukose gave NHIF a week to identify the policemen who were involved in the illegal payments.

To ensure a smooth transition to SHIF, the committee carried out spot checks across the country to gauge the extent of corruption.
