MPs have commenced to probe the claim of extravagant use of sh3.2 billion in renovating KICC (Kenyatta International convention Centre), ahead of the Africa Climate Summit carried in Nairobi last year.

local contractors appeared before national assembly tourism and wildlife committee to present a petition for monies owed to them accruing to Kshs 674billion.

One of the contractors Mercy Meria Mbiuki said that they were forced to accelerate constructions before streamlining the fine details of the contracts.

“We have written to the ministries of defense environment tourism foreign affairs and HOPS seeking an audience on the matter and we are yet to receive the responses. Some of us are at verge of being auctioned, “she said.

Maara MP Hon Kareke Mbiuki disputed Mercy’s statements saying that he led a team to draft the contracts in time but the contractors have not been paid.

“As committee, we are not aware of any of the Kshs3.2 billion contract sums. The information we have is that the project sum was Sh 1.94 billion which we as a parliament approved,” said Mbiuki.

Parliament says that only Kshs 1.9billion can be verified to have been used for the project, a probe into the claim that 3.2 billion was spent will continue.
