ONE MAN, ONE VOTE, ONE SHILLING

The Limuru 3 meeting has sparked political controversy in the country. Public Service CS Moses Kuria has joined the cohort of Mt Kenya politicians who are organizing the meeting.

Division of resources between regions in the country has always been a subject of contestation with leaders feeling that some regions should get more allocation from the government budget from others.

It is no secret that the Mt Kenya region is a vote rich region, but the subject of budget allocation should not be reduced to a tribal level. All Kenyans have a legitimate right to have a share of the national cake.

DP Rigathi Gachagua is right on many issues but on this issue of allocation he is terribly wrong. It might sit well with people from the Mt Kenya region but, for people from other regions this is a selfish thought.

Kenya has 47 tribes and they all deserve an equal share of budget allocation. Furthermore, allocation should be based on the needs of people from different areas. People in allocation struck areas need more funds to mitigate the effects of the calamities they face. Regions that are under developed need more funds so that the level of development can be equalized across the country.

The Mt Kenya leaders need to have a more constructive narrative to sell to their political base. Let not the political supremacy leaders be an impediment for development in the country. I will like the president’s indulgence in this matter.

Lastly Kenya is not a shareholder’s company as some people may be thinking, formation of government is a collective effort by all communities in the country. Every region needs equal allocation or even other regions need more allocation.
