Kenyan legislators and human rights groups are pushing to implement a bill that will ban resolving of sexual offenses through traditional means and out of court settlements. This is a consorted efforted to ensure that children who are abused sexually get justice.
The new amendments to the Sexual Offenses Act seeks to include emerging crime trends and technology in the act.
New changes will include banning traditional methods of resolving sexual offenses, barring foreigners who commit sexual offenses from leaving the country, making list of sexual offenders’ public and limiting chances of employment for sexual offenders.
Other amendments will include putting up police gender desks at hospitals, establishment of rescue homes for victims and charging of people who fail to report sexual offenses.
The act also wants grooming of children to be an offense. Grooming is building trust with a child in order to take advantage of them.
